Motor Control
Last update: 6/6/08

A fundamental component of robotics is the electric motor. There is a considerable number of types of electric motors, however, in ikalogic, we stress on the DC motors and how to accurately drive and control them, as they are the most basic component in robotics applications.

DC motors, with all its subcategories (Brushed, Brushless, gearhead, Stepper, Servo..) are relatively easy to control, with respect to other types like synchronous, asynchronous and AC motors...

Build a 5A H-Bridge Motor driver,new version
This article describe how to build a simple H-bridge motor controller. It is designed to be simple, fast to build with a minimum number of components, while still giving impressing results. This h-bridge have been tested on various of our robots and have even been commercialized for some time in egypt.
Build a 5A H-Bridge Motor driver, old version
In this article, I am going to show you how to build a relatively High power H-bridge motor controller (which is the most common way to control DC motors) With cheap TIP transistors. The main goal being to to build a small module, that can be added to any robot or any system where motor control is required.
Closed-loop speed and position control for DC motors
Without getting too close to the mathematical nature of this subject, this tutorial aims to explain what is the meaning of closed loop control, and how to apply it in your projects to achieve accurate speed and position control of regular brushed DC motors.

Building robot drive trains, Denis Clark
This book, which mainly covers the mechanical aspects of robot drive trains, also treats the issue of motor control over a couple chapters.

It goes through all the theoretical aspects that you may need, and show how to implement it in the real world with a lot of schematics and illustrations.

It have been 3 years I use this book as a reference in all my robotics project.
Electricity 4: AC/DC Motors, Controls and Maintenance, Jeff Keljik
"Quick and easy access to information on DC and AC motors", says Amazon reviewers. Well it's true. This book is straightforward, and clearly treats all the aspects of AC and DC motors in a very organized fashion.

I personally recommend this book as a reference for beginner and advanced users. Actually this book is used to teach in many engineering institutes across the world!
Suggest another interesting book.
