Flame detection using LDR

Hey...
I'm working on a fire extinguisher robo for an upcoming competition.The arena has 4 rooms(one of which will have a candle),the bot is supposed to detect the candle and blow it off.rooms are of varied sizes(91*72,66*46 &the largest being 120*91,in cm).
I wanted to use a LDR with an ADC to determine if a room has a candle right at the entrance(without entering it,that wud save the bot a lot of time).But the LDR isn't able to detect the candle flame(kept in a corner) from such a large distance.Is there any other sensor/device that detects change in light/temperature and has a good range(atleast 1 m)2671

ir sensors which are available in the market. they look like LED's. use a comparator ic. you can easily detect flame within 1m range. the only problem that may occur would be false trigerring due to ambient light.
