Here
is my little story...
My name is Ibrahim KAMAL, I was born in Cairo, Egypt in
August 1984, in a family house where i grew the first years
of my life, Before going to France. My Father is an Egyptian
medical doctor, working in the field of community medicine.
My Mother is French; she had her Doctorate in linguistics
from France in 2005. I have an older brother studying Medicine,
with whom i have a very good relationship. He has always
been very supportive to me.
I
lived a couple of years in France before coming back to
Egypt in the 90's
That's
when I begun to touch computers, at the age of 8, back at
this time all I had was the old Qbasic 1.1 interpreter to
learn programming with the trial and error, as I had no
other solution to relief that unstoppable need to have a
creative touch. I hated the idea of being a
user limited by the software constraints that a programmer
imposed to me. |

|
A year later my father introduced internet to our house... It
was a very exciting step is my life as I discovered all kind of
programming websites dedicated to the BASIC language. I was able
to download all kind of tutorials
 |
and
example codes, my learning curve increased in a dramatically
small time period. Later on, it took some effort to evolve
from the old BASIC to more sophisticated languages, but in
the following years, one thing led to another and I experienced
all kind of programming languages that I could discover: powerbasic,
libertyBasic, VisualBasic, VisualDialogScript, CASL, ASM,
c/c++, JavaScript, HTML, PHP... And I am sure I am missing
a lot!
in
2002, I graduated from Jesuits’ French school in Egypt,
and went to study mechatroincs engineering in a well known
private university in egypt called October 6 university.
It was hard to chose the field of mechatroincs rather than
programming or computer science, but I preferred to study
something that would involve more than just programming,
I never wanted to live my whole life behind a computer screen.
In fact,
my studies led me so far from programming to a mechanics training
in the hot western desert of egypt, on a petroleum rig. I
wont say that I loved it, but it gave me a breathtaking experience
in a field i never encountered before.
It didn't take me a lot of time to discover what
I exactly wanted to do in my life. I loved electronics,
programming and mechanics so the field of robotics and electronics
was the perfect one for me
|
One of my biggest ambitions is to work in a research & development
lab in one of the those huge multinational firms.
I started this website in 2004, in parallel with my engineering
studies, intending to write my achievements in electronics and programming
for the sole purpose of keeping a record of my work, and to use
it as a backup in
case
I lose some data or forgot what I learnt, so writing it
in my way would help me remember it easily in no time. But
later on, I discovered that putting a little more effort
in editing this content, would allow me to provide to the
visitors a growing set of articles that would help them
to get started in the field of electronics and programming,
or to learn new tricks. Then one thing led to another, and
now the sole purpose this website is to provide electronics
and robotics educational content, presented in my own fashion,
always keeping a very strong bond between the theory and
the practice, which - I believe - is the best way to learn,
because i believe that science has no meaning
if it is to stay in the books and never be applied.
I have to say that nowadays, this |
|
website is also a
source of pocket money using adsense advertisements, as I am getting
more and more visitors every month. It's not that this website is
a commercial project, no, far from that, but let's say that at least
now, the website run on its own, and i get a symbolic payment for
my efforts every couple of months.
As for for the five years I spent in October 6 university, it was
an exciting experience because the majority of its students were
palestinians, so I got the opportunity know them differently. at
least to remove that picture imposed by the media in my head, where
the palestinian boy is one wearing a scarf and throughing stones...
I loved palestinian people so much
that actually, all my friends at the university were palestinians,
and I was the
only egyptian in my graduation project team!
In 2007,
I concluded my 5 years of studies with a very interesting
and ambitious graduation project: Participation to the international
robotics contest called Robocon, which is organized
by the ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union). We had to compete
against some 42 other team in egypt, from various other universities
and institutes, to win the first place and represent egypt
in the International competition which was held in Hanoi,
Vietnam. So we did. We worked very hard all the year with
one clear goal, be the best team in egypt, and go international!
In Vietnam, I had to be a little more realistic, I knew we
were playing against technology giants like Korea, Japan,
China, and vietnam itself, and I knew we didn't have much
|

|
chances
of winning a decent place.. but never
less, we won
our first two matches against Nepal and India, then as expected,
Korea beated us in a matter of seconds. However, we got the ABU
best robot prize, so we didn't come back to egypt with empty hands!
Anyway the whole experience of participating to that international
competition was unforgettable, nor are the people I met during this
journey..
Now,
as i am writing this page, i am getting ready to
move to France, to continue my mechatroincs engineering
studies there, aiming for a master degree. The near future
is very unclear for me, as it have been a very long time
since I lived and studied in france, and the system seems
different and a little confusing.. but anyway, it should
be only a matter of days before i feel at home... after
all, it's my country too, right?!
I'll try to keep this page updated when new event appear
in my life.. for those who are interested in my little story...
Thanks for your time. |
